Minimal Clutter, Maximal Fierceness

simplicity

It is no great secret amongst fashion mavens that sometimes the best way to make a stunning sartorial impression is through simplicity. Whilst you may be sick and tired of hearing expressions like “less is more”, a simple stripped back look can rival a more ornate one whether it is for elegance or fun.

There are innumerable ways to approach dressing simply. One of the foremost is to use it as a stylish canvas that lets you highlight certain feature such as a necklace, or your hair and makeup. When dressing simply there is never the risk of becoming swamped in the clothes, it allows you to very much own your look.

Leighton House: An Interior Gem

Leighton House

Tucked away on the outskirts of that illustrious wedge of London known as Holland Park, Leighton House is the perfect architectural gem to pick up a bit of oft needed interior inspiration. Alongside its creator it certainly has a track record for inspiring ranks of artists and designers over the years, and still continues to do so.

Even renowned during its time, this building is twice as remarkable today in an age of minimal clutter and maximal neutrality. Practically untouched since its heyday when it was designed and occupied by the artist Frederick Leighton, the house is one of the worlds’ best remaining glimpses into Victorian opulence.

A Delicious Debonair Cocktail

Paper London

One would be hard pressed to find clothes more in tune with the urbane, cosmopolitan lady of style than those of Paper London.

Evocations of divine 1950s glamour are mixed with the summit of modern design in pieces like the Deco Mac that is cut in all the right places, and in a luscious citrus yellow it shows off this label’s sensitive feel for color which is also evident in their Gusman Jumper and coral toned Southbeach Dress. Other coats include the also brilliantly structured Lincoln Mac, and this spectacular architectural structure runs throughout, such as with the Canyon Linen Trousers and the Cuba Pencil Skirt.

A pinch of the classic, twist of minimalism and dash of glamour make for a perfect debonair cocktail of clothes.

Spotlight: Tie Dye Dreams

Tie Dye Dreams

Tie Dye is one of those trends that has pretty much exploded recently, and the ever conscientious Thakoon has been very much part of it with pieces like his Tie Dye Print Jumper.

Unlike many enthusiast of this trend Thakoon has actually made it as flattering and eye pleasing as it is eye-catching. The gorgeous and intricate pattern which fades from a deeply beautiful dark blue, to a lighter lustrous oceanic hue is probably one reason this jumper is so stunning, another being its three quarter length sleeves which make for an idiosyncratic yet good-looking twist.

It can be worn as part of an ‘of the moment’ 90s inspired look, or perhaps a vibrant print-centric style.  If you feel like something more graceful then how about a midi dress underneath which, if it at falls three quarters too, will splendidly mimic the sleeves of the jumper showing your fashionable aptitude for proportions. A long maxi dress however will also make for a splendid pairing.

Another majorly stunning creation from Thakoon, we look forward to many more!

Uncluttered Class: Mélanie Laurent

Mélanie Laurent

French actress Mélanie Laurent is perhaps most recognised for her Tarentino role, but she is also a talented writer, director and singer not to mention the fact that when it comes to style she is also dripping with aptitude. Since her appearance in Inglorious Basterds, Mélanie has with ever increasing velocity garnered the same level of acclaim for her unique sartorial sense as much as acting and other creative talents.

The face of campaigns like Hypnotic Poison, the perfume by Dior, this actress has long been recognised for her beauty in France. Featured in numerous magazines for her ensembles, Melanie has a distinctive look made up of a melange of other styles. The foremost of these being a ‘classic film star’ energy, which with her cinematic looks she can’t help but radiate, it is increased however by her inclusion of velvets, silks and midnight blues. She is often seen sporting delicate and detailed elements like lace, sheer and crochet.
